 ‘Casa da Folha’ (The Leaf House) is a centennial tipical ‘saloia’ village house totally restored having in mind the romantic ideal inspired by Sintra. It’s a refuge where time flows in a different pace and where it’s still possible to feel that old Sintra Mountains that inspired great poets and painters without being affected by the turbulence of the thousands of tourists that visit Sintra today.

‘Casa da Folha’ is located in Eugaria a small village with only a few residents craved in the heart of Sintra Natural Park that in the past was a refugee for artists that found there the close contact with nature that inspired the creation of in temporal works of art.

 

The house has three floors and can accommodate comfortably three persons. The divisions are not big since in the house restoration process was respected the traditional architectural plans of the traditional ‘saloia’ house. In all the floors you’ll find the predominance of red hot tonalities, wood and rustic stone. 

On the ground floor you will find the dining room and a totally equipped kitchen. The wall of dining room as the particularity of a big stone from the Sintra Mountain incrusted and a wood celling painted with romantic period inspired motifs.

In the middle floor there is a bedroom with a four-poster bed and a rustic window that allows soft sun light to the room. The bathroom is equipped with a XIX century stile bathtub and a stone lavatory. There is also access to a small interior patio with small trees that allows to enjoy some fresh air from the mountain and to have a great meal in sunny days.

The top floor as a living room with a piano and a private library and a interesting view of the village, the mountain and the seaside. A bedroom with a box-bed inspired in old Nordic tradition and also superb view on the enclosing landscape.

 ‘Casa da Folha’ is surounded by other small cottages and manor houses that bring a taste of XIX century Portugal. It is a great starting point for walks with several footpaths that cross along the Sintra hills.

Placed in the northern slopes of the Sintra mountains you can only get by car to Eugaria  taking the’ Estrada Nova da Rainha’ the old road crossing Sintra Natural Park. There are no shops in the village only cottages, manor houses and a small chapel. From a 2 km distance there is the village of Colares were you can find bars, restaurants, cafe’s, grocery store, supermarket, wine cellar, gas stations, drugstore and other shops. Larger villages like Sintra (6km) or Cascais (18 km) are also nearby and half an hour drive from Lisbon.

Apart from the luxurious green of the Sintra mountains, the fascinating bio diversity and the historical and architectonic heritage that can be found in Sintra and Colares you can also enjoy the nearby beaches like Praia das Maças, Praia da Adraga, Praia Grande, Praia Pequena, Praia da Aguda or Azenhas do Mar. And ‘Casa da Folha’ is only 9 km from Cabo da Roca the cape which forms the westernmost extent of mainland Portugal and continental Europe.

 ‘Casa da Folha’ is the ideal place to anyone who wishes to feel the tranquility of the Sintra natural park and at the same time being a few minutes’ drive from the turmoil of contemporary city life.  It’s also great for those who like outdoor sports activities like walks, climbing, paint-ball, horde riding, surf, windsurf or body board.
